ROCK'N ROAD TRIP '17 with Fuel, Tonic, Marcy Playground and Dishwalla Pack the Fremont Street Experience

For the third weekend in a row Scary Monsters Music covered an outdoor event in downtown Las Vegas and this weekend we returned to the Fremont Street Experience for their second FREE concert of their Summer Concert Series and this time it was the last night of the ROCK'N ROAD TRIP 17 tour featuring  Fuel, Tonic, Marcy Playground and Dishwalla. With temps in the mid 80's this was another perfect evening on one of the most exciting streets in the world. The night was filled with radio hits as the 4 bands played on 2 stages on opposite ends of the Fremont Street Experience.

Starting things off at 7pm was Dishwalla, who hails from Santa Barbara, California and actually surprised me at how good they are live as I have not seen them before. This American Alternative band is best know for their monster hit "Counting Blue Cars" which was released in 1996 and won the band the Billboard Award for Best Rock Song. During that same year the band charted 5 singles. Dishwalla took a 3 year hiatus from 2005 to 2008 and then reformed to a constant touring schedule. Dishwalla was a great band to kick things off, and after their set they hung out and watched and supported the other bands on this tour..

We headed down to the 3rd street stage to check out Marcy Playground who was next on the alternating stage setup. This is another American alternative band consisting of just 3 members and are best know for their song "SEX and CANDY" which was released in 1997, a song that went to #1 on both the US and Canadian alternative charts. I believe you could call this band a one hit wonder, as after that song they have never come close to matching that success.

Tonic has played on Fremont Street a couple of times in the past and my personal favorite of the night, and was next on bill.Tonic is an American rock band with 2 Grammy nominations on their resume. The band signed their record deal back in 1995, and released their first album in 1996 called Lemon Parade which produced the hit "If You Could Only See", which reached #11 on the Billboard Charts while reaching Platinum status. The band surprised me by opening the show with my Favorite Tonic song "Open Up Your Eyes" which had the heavily female crowd screaming with delight. Tonic continued with "Take Me As I Am" followed by "Liar", and closing out their set the band played their version of Fleetwood Macs "Go Your Own Way". After Tonic received a huge ovation from the crowd, that finished out the night on the 1st street stage.

FuelFuel Brett Scallions,FeulFuelScallionsFuel has sold over 4 million albums, and along with a handful of hits proved why they were headlining on this tour. Scallions  is a dynamic frontman who plays guitar and sings with the best of them. Fuel is a good time band and as the midnight hour approached they closed out their set with a frenzied crowd screaming for more.Fans headed back down to the 3rd street stage and the nights final act is an American rock band formed in 1994 and are best know for their hit songs "Shimmer", "Sunburn", "Hemorrhage In My Hands", "Bad Day", and "Falls From Me". Led by singer has released 5 albums to date.  mentioned that he could not wait to get home the following day to see his 2 kids after this tour ends. , and once arrived the crowd swelled to max capacity and as the lights dimmed and the intro music started up, the crowd was ready for the headliners to take the stage. is a band that tours relentlessly and lead singer who is the only original member left in the band, and

Next up for Fremont Street is one of the most iconic voices in the history of rock in roll as Ann Wilson of Heart makes her Fremont Street debut on July 3rd. A big thanks to the Fremont Street Experience staff for always taking great care of us. Thank you MayAnn, Leslie and Patrick for all you do and for bringing us a summer of amazing artists that will be hard to top!
