BACK TO THE 70’S FEATURING FOGHAT, RARE EARTH, PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE and PAT TRAVERS

4th OF JULY FREE CONCERT - BACK TO THE 70’S FEATURING

FOGHAT - RARE EARTH - PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE - PAT TRAVERS

MOAPA PAIUTE TRAVEL PLAZA

The annual FREE concert and fireworks show took place once again on the 4th of July out at the Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza,  around 35 miles east of Las Vegas out on the Paiute Indian Reservation. The travel plaza features a truck stop along with a small casino and huge fireworks store, and in the back of the store there is a large open area in the desert where patrons can shoot off all the fireworks they want, and they did all night long during and after the concert and it was an amazing sight to see...

The show started about 5:30 with the blazing desert sun right in the crowds' face, making it difficult to actually see the bands that played at that time of day, but starting off the show was 70’s star PAT TRAVERS. Pat played a short set to start the show with songs from his past including "Boom Boom Out Go the Lights" and "Snortin Whiskey". Next up was the band PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE who were celebrating 48 years as a band. This is a country rock band who might be best known for their hit "Amie", but their highest charting song was "Let Me Love You Tonight" back in 1980 which peaked at #10 on the US charts. This was actually a fun band to watch but once again, the sunset made it hard to really see the show.

The oldest surviving full band which goes way back to the 60’s, RARE EARTH brought out a setlist filled with memorable hits from throughout their career. Their biggest hit was "Get Ready" which peaked at #4 on the US charts, and they also played "I Know I’m Losing You" and "I Just Want To Celebrate", which had the crowd cheering and on their feet. The huge crowd loved this band and gave them a rousing ovation at the end of their set.

At 9pm there was a huge fireworks show put on by the Paiute Travel Plaza, that lit up the desert sky for miles in every direction. After the fireworks show FOGHAT took to the stage and got the crowd on their feet, as this is a band with monster hits throughout their career. The band started the show with "Drivin Wheel" followed by "Stone Blue", and a set that included hits "Fool For The City" and "I Just Want To Make Love To You". FOGHAT ended their set with the classic "Slow Ride". Lead guitarist Brian Bassett plays amazing slide guitar throughout the show, along with the great vocals of Charlie Huhn who plays rhythm guitar along with original drummer Roger Earl, and former Pat Travers' bassist Rodney O’ QuinnFOGHAT remains as popular today as ever with more fireworks, bands, food and drinks - all outdoors in an amazing venue this is a family friendly event, and by far it’s the best fireworks show anywhere in the state of Nevada. You can catch FOGHAT again in downtown Las Vegas in October during Bike Week.
