On March 13, 2019 the House of Blues in Las Vegas threw a good old fashioned southern hard rocking party as the boys in JACKYL brought their 25 year anniversary tour to Las Vegas!! Kicking off the show was locals STRANGE MISTRESS, a band filled with very accomplished musicians who always put on a killer show. The JOHN ZITO BAND was next, and now this group of musicians are some of the best you will see anywhere! The band is comprised of ¾’s of the Count’s 77 band, and is led by one of the best guitar players I always enjoy seeing play live. John Zito is a self taught guitar player who is just incredible on slide guitar. I was mesmerized listening to the band’s cover of "Bridge of Sighs", that took me back to the 70’s watching Robin Trower at Anaheim Stadium. Paul Disibio is on drums and on bass its Barry Bonds, and along with John Zito the Band has a new CD coming out soon that is being produced by Stoney Curtis and titled Baptism Under Fire. You can go and pre-order it Here.
Now it was time for JACKYL ! The stage had a massive backdrop with four dogs each representing a member of the band each holding their corresponding instruments they play, and at the front / center on the floor was a rug with a big horseshoe where singer Jesse James Dupree held court for all those in attendance. Jesse is a charismatic figure who knows how to command his audience and bring the Jackyl party up close and personal. He has one of those voices as soon as you hear one of their songs you instantly know who it is. Jesse James Dupree is one of the best frontman and is entertaining as hell. Joining Jesse in Jackyl is Jeff Worley- Guitar, backing vocals, Chris Worley - Drums and Roman Glick - Bass guitar, backing vocals. These southern rockers opened the show with the in your face “Blast Off” followed by the tongue in cheek “My Moonshine Kicks Your Cocaine’s Ass”. Jackyl payed homage midway through their show to some country greats who were big influences on them with tunes from Hank Williams Jr, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, and they also honored the Allman Brothers Band by playing “Midnight Rider”. The band really reached deep and did a couple from the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet, and no Jackyl show would be complete without such iconic songs such as “Down On Me", "I Stand Alone", "When Will It Rain", "Dirty Little Mind”, and closing out the show the band did “She Loves My Cock" and of course the showstopper “Lumberjack”, where Jesse brings out a wooden stool and chainsaw and proceeds to rev the chainsaw up and down to the beat of the song then cut the stool in half and giving the souvenir pieces out to the crowd. And with that, 25 years of Jackyl comes to an end.
