Roger Daltrey opened his 2 night stand at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas March 7th to a packed house inside The Joint. During this two night stand the legendary WHO frontman would be performing Who hits, rarities and solo hits from his vast career. Daltrey is now 74 years young, and watching him perform you would never guess. Performing with Daltrey is a band of seasoned musicians, who also perform in the touring WHO, known as the No Plan B Band, and consists of Simon Townshend (brother of original Who guitarist Pete Townshend) on guitar and vocals, Frank Simes on lead guitar, Jon Button on bass, Loren Gold on keyboards and Scott Devours on drums. Frank Simes is also Musical Director for the band.
The show opened with the classic Who song "Overture" which gave Daltrey and the band a chance to loosen up before getting into the meat of the show. Daltrey and the band played another huge WHO classic "Pinball Wizard" followed by "I Can See For Miles", and had the crowd on their feet singing and dancing to the classic songs. Two songs later it was one of my personal favorites as Daltrey sang "Behind Blue Eyes", and then curiously Roger sang a song by Leo Sayer called "Giving It All Away". Back to more WHO songs with "Athena" and "Who Are You", and "Going Mobile".
There was a song or two that Daltrey told the audience that the Who never performed live, and Roger told little anecdotes and explained the meaning and story behind the songs he chose to perform, and this gave some great insight into one of the greatest singers in rock and roll history. The show closed with another Who classic and crowd fav "Baba O’Riely" and closed with "Young man Blues". It was great to see the wide range of ages in the crowd and the generations brought their loved ones to see a true legend up close and personal in the beautiful Joint at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas. Daltrey will have another performance March 10th at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel to wrap up this two night residency.
