THE HU: THE GEREG TOUR with guests CROWN LANDS at BROOKLYN BOWL LV

Mongolian sensations THE HU made a tour stop in Las vegas at Brooklyn Bowl at the Linq, and hours before they took the stage there was a line of over 300 fans outside the venue, stretching halfway through the Linq outdoor mall. Inside, the line moved up the stairs onto the concert floor, for a nearly sold out the Brooklyn Bowl event.

Opening up the show was the band CROWN LANDS, a duo is from Canada that consists of Cody Bowles on Drums/ Vocals and Kevin Comeau on Guitars/ Bass/ Synths. Their sound is heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin and Rush, and it was highly evident on the vocals of Cody Bowles, who sounded a lot like Robert Plant. The band did a cover of Rush’s "Working Man" that had the crowd on their feet, was fun to watch, and a big surprise to all - and won the packed venue over by the end of their short but powerful set.

The lights dimmed and turned a dark red, and the faint sound of a flute could be heard as THE HU emerged from heavy smoke that was rolling across the bottom of the stage. The venue was standing room only, which is pretty amazing for a band that plays Mongolian rock music on their native tongue. THE HU are a Mongolian rock sensation that have achieved worldwide recognition with their singles and videos for "Wolf Totem," "Yuve Yuve Yu" and "The Great Chingiss Khan", and have a 'hunnu rock' (loosely translates to "human rock") style of music, that combines heavy rock melodies played with traditional Mongolian instrumentation, the Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle), Tovshuur (Mongolian guitar), Tumur Khuur (jaw harp), accompanied by guttural throat singing in their native language.

The crowd chanted "Shoog.. Shoog..." as THE HU launched into this first song, one of the most recent singles from their fall 2019 debut first lp The Gereg, released in September on Eleven Seven Records. The set included all three of their world touted singles above, and every additional song from the new Gereg LP, in addition to a few even newer songs. THE HU consists of just four actual members, but tour with a band that consists of five additional musicians, and creates a huge ensemble on stage with a huge presence to match. The show is very visual, and creates its own aura with the mesmerizing chanting and tribal sound. The show is definitely different and unusual, and a very unique and talented upcoming band that is a must see live to experience their full effect.
