An Evening with THIRD EYE BLIND at The Pearl Theater at the Palms LV

Las Vegas is lucky enough that there is something special going on almost every night for music. Tonight is no exception, the fans are being treated to An Evening with Third Eye Blind at The Pearl at the Palms Casino. One of the reasons this show was so special, is that the band is not currently on tour - they have been playing festivals here and there, but this was just a night just with them - the more traditional, consecutive-date tour is largely saved for their peak summer stretch starting July through August. Frontman Stephan Jenkins commented to the crowd at one point that he was afraid this scheduled date was going to be a corporate gig, and he was glad to see it was a full on rock show. The fans didn’t need any encouragement to get the party going, they almost filled the room from the floor to the top seats, but this statement seemed to excite them even more for the show to begin.

The alt rockers began with "Horror Show" and "Duststorm", but five songs in when "Graduate" played the crowd got even more excited. Jenkins was singing and playing both acoustic and electric guitars, and even broke out the tambourine at various times. The connection he has with guitarist Kryz Ried and bassist Alex LeCavalier is something that only comes from playing together for over a decade. They are well matched in their energy by drummer Brad Hargreaves and Colin Creeve rounding out this five piece.

The night continues with fan favorites including "Jumper" and a cover of David Bowie's "Heroes" before ending with "Semi-Charmed Life" and "How’s it Going to Be". Until I saw this performance it was sometimes hard to remember just how many huge hits this band has, and the crowd sang along to every word, the lesser known tracks as well. It was clear these were real fans of this band in attendance, who were not going to miss this night of hits.

An Evening with Third Eye Blind reminded us all why we love this music and why Las Vegas is such a special place. This was not the cookie cutter performance you get on a tour with the same setlist every night - the band didn't seem set on having to follow a list and they discussed what to play next at various times during the performance, and at times even listening to requests from the crowd. This really did make it a special experience for the fans and the band alike, and everyone left the evening smiling.

Third Eye Blind has summer tour dates later this month through September, more on the upcominf dates .HERE.. Check out the new release of Third Eye Blind's Cover of Bowie's "Heroes" HERE
