Locals D’ANGELED Play First show at The Griffin Las Vegas

It’s not that often I see the very first show by a band these days, I got an invite from a friend who mentioned that D’ANGELED would be playing downtown in Vegas at a venue I've not had the pleasure of, The GRIFFIN. The Griffin ended up being one of the coolest venues I have seen East Fremont Street, the interior is all brick, brick arches and old wood, the staff I interacted with were very friendly and we sat for a while and chatted with Helen who handled the door a little about the club. A really nice room and a good bit of bands coming through, check it out HERE.

D’ANGELED played for the first time for this show, who describe themselves as a Las Vegas based southern metal band fused with elements of deathcore/metalcore/thrash and nu-metal. That's a lot! The band has Jesse Thomas on vocals and guitar, Matt Daffenberg on guitar, Zac Piper on drums and Lloyd Varnon on bass. Lloyd has been a alumni of a few Vegas based acts, and I talked with him about the new band, who have been rehearsing for about 6 months and currently developing more new material, but for this first show they would be playing stuff the band already had in their repertoire.

That being said, the band was raw and unpolished, but they put on a pretty good first show. The stage is the floor, and there were a few chairs and a couch round the edges of the room, but the hardcore fans who came out were right in front, just a few feet from the band. The set was short but pretty solid, Lloyd has always been a great bass player and is very passionate about it, Jesse Thomas & Matt Daffenberg did a great job on guitars, and as Lloyd stated to me before the show, drummer Zac Piper is a beast on the drums. I thought the band really shined on the final song of their set, and the audience gave them a solid welcome. I look forward to seeing them play again, and hear more from D’ANGELED in 2024.
