When the Lords of Acid rolls into town it’s going to be a hell of a night. The Cheeky Freaky Tour hit the Bizarre Bar in Las Vegas and lived up to the hype, bringing along MZ Neon, Tony & The Kiki, Princess Superstar, and Dead on a Sunday. This had to be the most diverse group of opening acts I have seen, and the crowd was as big diverse as the bands.

The show got started with trans performer MZ NEON, a solo artist who brought her pop punk/ electronic beats for a fun set, a striking figure onstage who delivered a solid opening set that kicked off the long night of performers. Mz Neon has self-released a new single, “Queen Hyena,” to coincide with the Cheeky Freak tour, and has an album in the works, Maximaschina, with a cut co-written with Linda Perry. More on Mz Neon HERE.

Tony & The Kiki was the crowd favorite of the opening acts, this duo from New York brought a throwback glamorous stage show to the fanboy crowd. Tony (Anthony Alfaro) was dressed in a glamorous red dress as they strutted back and forth onstage and engaged the enthusiastic crowd, while The Kiki (Rodney Bush) pumped up the keys for a disco dance party. The duo are very entertaining and really talented, and Tony brought humor to go along with the powerhouse band's party-like set.

Princess Superstar (Concetta Suzanne Kirschner) is an American rapper / DJ who hails from NY. Her self described "Flip-flop'" style earned her chart topping hits in the early 2000's, and has released a multitude of albums since her1996 debut. She has now reinvented herself, her remixed song "Perfect" in the film Saltburn propelling her back out on stage and touring - and releasing new singles like "Yum Yum" - and we got an earful. Her show was full of fun, fashion changes, and innuendos, with hit "Bad Babysitter" and finale "Perfect", and she was definitely a force on the stage.

Before Dead On A Sunday even hit the stage the fog machines were cranked up to a level I have never seen in this venue, it was so bad that you could hardly even see the duo onstage and lead singer Ross Ryan even commented, “ I don’t know what's going on with the smoke machines and I didn't ask for this.” I didn't even know there was a drummer onstage until Ryan mentioned it due to the excess smoke. Other than the smokescreen, this was one of my favorite acts on the tour, and they delivered a great set of their haunting dark wave songs, including “Goodbye Horses", "Dance Like Hell" and Carolyne”.

Now the real party started, as acid house/industrial cult legends Lords Of Acid brought us their Freaky Cheeky show. I have seen three other Acid Queens, but in my opinion Carla Harvey is by far the best of these. Her level of energy is unmatched, and she seems to be having so much fun, and has really settled into her role as front woman of this band. The Lords kicked off their show with the popular “Scrood Bi U”, a song in which Carla really shined.

LOA has been around for nearly 40 years and was founded by the legendary Praga Kahn. This time around the touring band is a more scaled back version, with Praga on keys and vocals, Carla Harvey on lead vocals, Galen Waling on drums, Creighton Emrick on guitars and DieTrick Thrall on bass. Carla looked stunning as usual, and her vocals are impressive, and she engages the crowd with constant head banging. She seems to never stand still even for a second, constantly moving around the stage with the biggest smile.

This band is all about SEX and partying and flaunts it through their show. A tradition during the song “Pussy”, is to call up onstage all the females in the audience to get up and dance with Carla, as she told the crowd that this is one of her favorite parts of the show, hot sweaty females. A large blowup doll was tossed into the crowd as the band played favs ”Rubberdoll” and “Rough Sex” as the crowd screamed and danced along. After a short break at the end of their set that band returned with two encore classics - “Out Comes the Evil” and “I Sit On Acid” for the finale.

This show by LOA was a solid 10 for me, and was the expected non stop party. The band was solid and Carla was exceptional. All hail the current Acid Queen Carla Harvey, and I hope she continues as the reigning Acid Queen.
