MAMMOTH blasted into Las Vegas and the House of Blues with the End Tour, hitting the stage with pounding drums and smashing guitars for “One of a Kind”, with Wolfgang Van Halen stepping up to lead the way. A multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter mastermind, Van Halen has put together a tight impressive touring band that enhances the Mammoth experience - Frank Sidoris (Slash) and Jon Jourdan (To Whom It May) on guitars, Ronnie Ficarro (FIR) on bass, and Garrett Whitlock (Tremonti) on drums. The Vegas crowd screamed along to hard rockin' songs and the soaring melodies with cuts from all three Mammoth albums, headbanging and horns in the air.
But prior to Mammoth, we got a short and sweet set from Myles Kennedy to get the crowd rocking. Myles Kennedy just is an amazing performer, and an even more amazing vocalist, and a perfect companion to Mammoth on the tour. The bulk of Kennedy’s setlist contained songs from his latest album, The Art Of Letting Go, starting with title track, and then "Nothing More To Gain", joined by Zia Uddin on drums and Tim Tournier on bass.
Kennedy's strong melodies and emotion filled songs make each one memorable, and the really connect with the fans. There is even a bit of country twang on the title cut, but the blistering guitar work keeps it on a hard rock track. The crowd really loved it, singing and swaying along, and the album really shows the range of his melodic tunes and guitar riff driven songs. More on Myles Kennedy and The Art of Letting Go HERE.
But back to Mammoth and the prodigy we witnessed - Wolfgang Van Halen has set the bar high as a multi talented artist - composing and performing all the material on the 2025 album The End, (as well as two prior Mammoth albums). But besides being the musical genius, Van Halen finds a way to really connect with the audience, and in between songs is just the guy that lives next door, joking and telling anecdotes on the Las Vegas stage. He really seemed awestruck at the crowd response and the packed house, and thanked the fans for such big love. He is just a really likable guy.
The set gave us songs from the building Mammoth catalogue, with highlights "The Spell" and an emotional "The Distance", and the live debut of single “Same Old Song". The night ended with a finale of "Don't Back Down" and title track to the new album, “The End", that starts with the VH signature finger tapping, and just blew the crowd away.
The new album packs a big punch, and the video for title track "The End" does even more - with a lot of movie nods, hilarious cameos, and Eddie well represented, while Wolfgang comes into his own. Check it out HERE, and more on Mammoth and tour dates HERE.
