It is rare to find truly unique shows today, and this bill was just that, with a string instrumental metal band and a Mongolian Folk Rock band on board, and the Vegas crowd was pumped and ready.
Finnish symphonic metal band APOCALYPTICA take the stage first, and the front of the venue is packed with people excited to see this band again. They tour through Las Vegas frequently, but tonight playing the Metallica only set was something to look forward to.
The band released their tenth studio album, Plays Metallica, Vol. 2, (sequel to their debut 1996 album Plays Metallica by Four Cellos) and the set was a mix of old and new for the fans, loaded with all the Metallica favorites including "Ride the Lightening", "Enter Sandman", "For Whom the Bell Tolls", "Nothing Else Matters" and "Seek and Destroy". Apocalyptica make a point of saying the beauty of what they do is the fact that they can play whatever they want, and they do just that, and have a great time doing it. It is a jam-packed set and the crowd is providing all the vocals, and the energy in the room is intense by finale "One".
THE HU are mesmerizing, and for anyone out there that says there is nothing new in music today, you need to see this band. The group have their own musical genre they call "Hunnu Rock," which fuses heavy metal with traditional Mongolian culture. Singing in their native language and incorporating Mongolian throat singing with modern and traditional instruments - this is definitely a atypical and remarkable performance. There are eight performers on stage, four providing the vocals and all performing as one, and the crowd was pumping their fists in the air and headbanging. Each of the four core members commands the stage and the overall visual is interesting and enjoyable. The set included "Lost Soul", "Horse Men", "Upright Destined Mongol", "Warrior Chant", "Black Thunder" and of course the most popular "Wolf Totem".
It is not often that you see a crowd so excited for a band that they do not even completely understand, but that is not the case here this crowd is pumped up and they stay from start to finish. The set included "Lost Soul", "Horse Men", "Upright Destined Mongol", "Warrior Chant", "Black Thunder" and of course the most popular "Wolf Totem". Despite the crowd not being fluent in Mongolian, they raise horns in the air and sing along.
This Apocalyptica and HU tour is and unusual and extraordinary tour, with outstanding melodic metal performances from each band, not to be missed. More on tour dates and cities HERE.
