OPETH : The Last Will and Testament with guests KATATONIA at the PEARL LAS VEGAS

Opeth brought their Last Will And Testament Tour to Las Vegas with guests Katatonia, for a mind blowing show - a visual and auditory masterpiece from the Swedish prog metal gods at the magnificent Pearl Theater at the Palms - not to mention a lot of fun too!

Katatonia opened the show with "Thrice" from their new 2025 release Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State, amid smoke and a darkened medieval stage, that reflected the brooding atmosphere of their prog doom metal themes. Jonas Renkse was a shadowy figure on the darkened stage, weaving in and out of a set that traversed a good bit Katatonia's catalogue for a short set, and gave us a real taste of the new record and their trajectory.

Katatonia's hooks and melodies flow throughout the gothic tracks, esoteric but memorable songs, and they made a great segway for the great Opeth for the second set. More on Katatonia and new music HERE.

Opeth blasted onto the stage with lights and sound with "§1" from the conceptual The Last Will and Testament - their 2024 fourteenth studio album release - the stage an amazing plethora of color, with a large video backdrop of everchanging moods to transport the audience into a world of crystal sounds and manic growling. With the immense catalogue from Opeth and the lengthy arrangements, we got a taste of Last Will with three cuts, and a smattering of the history in the set.

The music is moody and haunting but vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt can be a comedian in between the cuts, claiming "Vegas is weird" and joking "were going to play the song everybody fucking hates," before "The Devil's Orchard".

With such a large catalogue to choose from, Opeth gave us a varied set, with a few from Last Will before finale "Deliverance". More than solid set from the death metal masters. More on Opeth HERE.
