Once again I return to my favorite local live music venue, SINWAVE for a hardcore lineup with the return of SKINLAB, locals SKELETON CREW and from the bay area, SHORT FUSE.
The minute you walk into SINWAVE you are immersed in their lobby area that features large booths, couches and tables, with music playing through speakers. There is a cashless where they have the usual specialty drinks, and you can hang out in the lobby until it's show time, when the doors open to the concert area of this amazing venue. SINWAVE is fairly new, and has been a work in progress with improvements each time I have seen a show there. The lighting gets better and better to go with an already killer sound system. But let's get to the bands on this show...
Locals SKELETON CREW started off the show and performed a blistering but short set. For a no frills staring in your face hard rocking band check these guys out - they have an upcoming show at Triple B’s on Oct 4th. They were a great lead in for the next band, and a solid metal set.
It was my 2nd time seeing the band SHORT FUSE, the last time I saw them they blew me
away at the Apocalypse In the Desert Metal Festival. One of the main members of Short Fuse is keyboardist Martin Boynton, who is also a partner in SINWAVE. The band is high energy and their sound is tight, with Martin and his keyboard on a spring stand moving and bouncing all over the place. Besides looking deranged while playing, Martin is a fantastic keyboard player, and this melodic death metal band also features a very imposing, very big man on vocals, Myke D, who just kills it. The band will finish up their tour with SKINLAB and now it's off to the studio to record some fresh new songs.
It's been awhile since I have seen SKINLAB so I were really looking forward to their return to Vegas. Last time I saw their lead vocalist, Steev, was at the beginning of the summer when he came to Vegas and hung out with fans on Fremont Street for the free Seether concert. Now SKINLAB was back in Vegas with VENOMOCITIES TOUR 2024, and really blasted our faces off.
SKINLAB was formed 20 years ago in the Bay area, and like a lot of bands have had their ups and downs, but it seems that the band is on the right track now and they put on a show to remember at SINWAVE. The band's current lineup is Steev Esquivel on lead vocals and bass, Scott Sargeant on guitars, Marcos Medina Rivera on guitars and Fabian Vastod on drums. It was great to see guitarist Marcos Medina Rivera play live, with the craziest dreads I have seen, swinging around he looked like a modern day Medusa. I love this band and it was just what we needed - hard, heavy, Bay Area metal.
