Seriously...what took so long for this band to come through Vegas? Ever since A Killer's Confession was announced back in September of 2016 we have waited patiently for this band to play anywhere in Vegas, as Waylon Reavis has been a favorite here since back in the days when he would play at the LVCS with his former band Mushroomhead. Reavis spent 11 years in Mushroomhead, but left and stated he wanted to move in a new direction in his life and do something different - and what a new project he has created with A Killer's Confession.
Reavis has an powerful voice and is an amazing frontman, and his band’s sound is larger than you would expect - these guys hit the stage and immediately a wall of sound knocks you down and drives you to the ground. Besides Waylon Reavis, A Killer's Confession consists of Tommy Church (guitar, also from Mushroomhead), Matt Tarach (guitar), Morgan Bauer (drums), and JP Cross (bass). The stage had 3 video screens setup back behind the drummer, and played videos for each song, and the band played until just past 1am in this outdoor venue. For a show that went on this late the crowd stayed strong and Reavis let them know he appreciated them staying when there are so many other things on a Friday night.
One of the highlights of the show and one of the few slower moments came when Reavis told the crowd to move forward and stop moshing and help him sing the NIN song "Hurt", doing it the way Johnny Cash covered it, which Reavis stated was actually a better version, and as the band played the song, Reavis leaned forward into the crowd and extended the mic and had audience members sing parts of the song. Waylon got a surprise and seemed very impressed by one young lady, our own Roxy Gunn when she leaned in and sang a chorus, not knowing that Roxy is one of the most talented performers Vegas has produced through the years. One of Waylon's dear friends, Aaron Nordstrom (singer for the band Gemini Syndrome) who happens to live here in Vegas and frequents the Beauty Bar from time to time was also in attendance.
Not wanting to leave the stage, Reavis asked his band if they could do one more song, and then Reavis thanked the crowd and stated next tour he plans on starting it right here in Vegas. This is a “KILLER” band with unlimited potential, they have a very smart and talented leader who has a vision for what this band should be, and we can not wait to see them again and what they have instore for us in the future.
