POWERMAN 5000 COLLIDE IN LAS VEGAS with KOTTONMOUTH KINGS, JULIAN-K & THE FAR WORST

Powerman 5000 is a Vegas rock touring staple, the band always garners a great crowd ion Vegas, and this show at the House of Blues at Mandalay brought along some great support with Kottonmouth Kings, Julien - K, and local rockers The Far Worst.

THE FAR WORST is a local band who has garnered quite a bit of momentum in the past year, and might be the hottest band currently out of Vegas. I have followed this band since they started, and have seen the maturity of their show evolve, and them go from playing tiny clubs to recently playing Frenzyfest, becoming a regular on Fremont Street, and now at the HOB.

Bree Elizabeth Forsberg is a force on vocals, with Andy Ingraham on guitar, Jake Bruen on bass and Brian Scott on drums, the band really packs a Vegas punch. They released their debut album “Vicious Cycle” back on January this year, and are really making an impact with their heavy rock sound. JULIAN-K has become one of my favorites to see every time they come through Vegas. They are an electronic band based in Long Beach and feature Amir Derakh on guitar and synths, Ryan Shuck on vocals and guitar and on drums Galen Wailing (who also plays drums with The Lords Of Acid). The band kicked off their short set with the killer song "Futura " and my fave “All That Glitters”. I also got to hear “Shadow Life” which they don't play as often, and the finale "Blue Monday" that always closes out the set. More on Julien - K HERE.

This was my first time seeing the KOTTONMOUTH KINGS and I did not have any idea what to expect. The energy these guys brought to the stage was insane - I can tell you it was like watching a bunch of 4 year olds chase each other around - this group hit the stage running, and never seemed to slow down. Back and forth with one guy going left and others going right, it was a track meet onstage. Fun times with a theme - The Kings have been around now for 32 years and are a pro-cannabis based band. Since the first time I saw Powerman 5000, they really impressed me, and they have been one of my personal favs ever since. The energy they bring to the stage and their electro-metal music and csci-fi horor themes with their classic hits makes this a stellar show every time. Spider One leads the band on vocals, with Evan9 on bass, DJ Rattan on drums, Taylor Haycraft on rhythm guitar and Dan Schiz on lead guitar. PM5K kicked off their headlining set with the recognizable “Supernova Goes Pop” followed by “Tonight the Stars Revolt” and really got the crowd revved up.

Throughout the show Spider made little jabs at the Chris Brown / Usher show across the street at Allegiant Stadium, stating that the reason rooms at Mandalay bay were $780 a night was due to that show, and thanked everyone in attendance for NOT going to that concert haha.

PM5K played a mix of hits and “Bombshell”, which was rerecorded and rereleased on their latest 2024 album Abandon Ship. They took a quick break then came back out and did a three song encore that included “How To Be A Human”, “Free” and “When Worlds Collide”, that finished the set with a kick. This was a great night with four diverse bands that made for a inventive and entertaining show in Vegas.
